Logo Gallery features work by important players in the new Brazilian street art movement, such as Bruno 9li, Sesper, Flávio Samelo, Luis Flávio Trampo, Alex Hornest, Rimon Guimarães and many others.
Clean the apartment before leaving on a long trip --> gotta come home to a clean house to heal.
Bank vault massive. Getting Brazilian reais $$$.
Barting to SFO... Mentally preparing for our upcoming 38 hour journey --> SFO to LAX to Lima, Peru (w/ 10 hour layover) then finally to Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Arrive at SFO to find our gang drinking at the bar.
Check Aiyana's shark socks slowly eating her leg.
Fish mentally preparing.
Somewhere between SFO and LAX.
Can you spot the Hollywood sign.
We're thinking of you Mel Kadel and Travis Millard.
Transfering from LA's domestic to international terminal, we take a smoke break.
And hit the Marina bar.
Ready for the 9 hour flight to Lima, Peru, guys? --> Check out that serious dude back there.
Now in Lima, Fish is hyped on the 10 hour layover.
Rest before drinking the day away.
In Lima, Peru they call this pizza... I call it diarrhea waiting to happen. No thanks.
Trying on the Furie glass action... I look pretty good, I do say.
Thumbs up, Johnny.
Drink up. Just 6 hours to go.
So, that's what Lima, Peru looks like.
Thumbs up, Fish.
Last thing I remember before arriving in Sao Paulo.
The great Tristan Rault, one of the curators for the MCD project, greets us at 1am to take us to a hotel... We're tired, and I order another beer while we wait.
The first night in a foreign country is trippy. Everything is new and awesome... From what we read and heard, thought we were flying into Bagdad or something.
Day one and view from the room... in future blogs we'll go over Sao Paulo graffiti known as pixação... incredible stuff that covers the entire city.
Pari Bar sponsored the show, thus we got to eat our meals there for free... Historic low-key drinking den that once brought together leftist politicians, musicians and journalists—rumor has it Fidel Castro got his drink on here.
Lucky for me, today they're serving Brazil's traditional dish FEIJOADA. Salty, yes, but so good. Takes 18 hours to make!
Driving to Logo Gallery... The city is covered in graffiti and large butted ladies.
Getting a tour of LOGO Gallery where the show will be held.
Has that new gallery smell.
Great space that has been a gallery for decades. LOGO just moved in and is preparing for their first show.
Outside we meet Flavio and his wife Jayelle... More on them in future blogs. Great couple.
The gallery sits in one of the better neighborhoods. Still told to watch out for Moto Boys.
Love Furie's pants jam.
Now we taxi over to the great museum Sao Paulo Museum of Art (MASP).
The São Paulo Museum of Art is well-known for its headquarters, a 1968 concrete and glass structure designed by Lina Bo Bardi, whose main body is supported by two lateral beams over a 74 meters freestanding space, considered an landmark of the city and a main symbol of modern Brazilian architecture.
Tristan knows the curators and artists installing. We're allowed behind the scenes as they install their next huge show curated by Culture Shock Gallery.
Dad front and center.
Owners of Culture Shock Gallery.
Check the massive Swoon cutouts.
Space Invader is also part of the show. His work was done on the streets of Sao Paulo. Here's one you can view from the show.
Are these of Monica Canilao? Certainly looks like her.
Dinner time... This place is great. They had sweets, pastries, sandwiches... anything. It was like a normal US restaurant/ buffet on crack.
Jana and Tristan (blured)
How can you be a snob when you're wipping your ass?!
I love being referred to as "Lords of Guests".
Wind up the night drinking with Matt and Aiyana.
Note: Don't buy the cheapest wine available. No Two Buck Chuck in Brazil. Had to mix the crude with orange soda which is quite good... Try it. mix red wine and orange soda. I think you'll be surprised.
From our patio we could see a guy burning tires next to the highway as cars zoomed past.
And that concludes our first day in Sao Paulo... More blogs throughout the week.
